Halloween Party 2015

Ashley Walton —  November 8, 2015 — Leave a comment

Every year, we invite our friends to dress up, share a meal, and of course, watch Thriller with silent respect and awe. Below are some photos of our friends’ amazing costumes, party details, and the coolest novelty chocolates you’ll ever see. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be counting down the days until next Halloween.

It’s finally October, and all my favorite things are now in season! I’ve had my Star Wars-themed Halloween costume ready to go since early September, and during my hunt, I found so many great fun, easy Star Wars costumes that I have to share with the world! It’s never been easier to grab cool Star Wars cosplay pieces that can make for a simple Halloween costume but become every day wardrobe staples.

legendarium podcast horror

A while ago, I had the privilege of discussing one of my favorite things as a guest on The Legendarium Podcast with my brilliant friend, Emma. For the record, I whole-heartedly recommend getting together to discuss stuff with strangers who share your interests. As guests on The Legendarium, Emma and I had the opportunity to discuss horror themes, cosplay, and genre tropes with some fine people with great insights, and I left with warm fuzzies. Check out the episode here!

False Positive Booth

If you’re in the Salt Lake area, check out Salt Lake Comic-Con Fan-Xperience, Thursday through Saturday. If the event is anything like last year’s Salt Lake Comic-Con, you’re in for a treat. This has quickly become one of the largest comic conventions in terms of attendees, and last year’s crowd was unbeatable. Part of the magic of comic conventions is meeting like-minded peeps, and last year we were surrounded by so much enthusiasm and homemade cosplay, our hearts nearly exploded. This year, both Jeff and I will be working at the False Positive booth (#1811), so come by and say hello and snag some free schwag. We’ll even hook you up with a free sketch from the comic’s talented creator. See you there!

With my favorite holiday fast approaching, some of you may be scrambling to throw together an easy costume. Not everyone can obsessively plan out Halloween months in advance (like I do), and maybe you just want a clever costume for a Halloween party. Here are some easy costume options that can all be donned by women and gents alike.

1. Dr. Who

What You Need:

  • Collared shirt
  • Tweed jacket
  • Red bow tie
  • Fez

With a few easy-to-find and inexpensive items, you’re in business as Dr. Who. Think Geek even offers a Dr. Who quick costume set with a fez and bow tie. It doesn’t get any easier.

2. Shaun

What You Need:

  • Name tag
  • Red tie
  • White collared shirt
  • Fake blood

Muss up your shirt and tie so you look nice and disheveled from running for your life. Don’t forget to put a red ink stain on the shirt pocket. Bonus points for adding a cricket bat to the ensemble.

Salt Lake Comic-Con 2013

Ashley Walton —  September 9, 2013 — 2 Comments

Over the weekend, Salt Lake City had its first comic convention, with record-breaking attendance for an inaugural geek fest. At Salt Lake Comic-Con, Stan Lee and William Shatner showed up, along with some lesser-known celebrities, but the highlight of the con was the fans. Because so many fans purchased tickets, the event had to move to a larger convention center– tallying about 70,000 tickets sold and turning away thousands more after the event sold out. The fan energy and enthusiasm was contagious– there were so many costumed individuals happily crammed together and swooning over the booths. We’ll post on some cool stuff we got from the Con in a later post, but here are some of our favorite pictures from the con. Enjoy!
